This project explores a heat-sensitive
architectural adaptive façade, actuated
using shape memory alloys (SMAs). A geometrical origami
component and a corresponding facade
composition was designed to optimize the adaptability of the system.
Three types of actuation systems were
investigated: passive (heating –UV), cooling (by two-way treatment),
electrical (Arduino circuit heating), and mechanical
(using springs/weights) for shape recovery. A physical prototype was fabricated
and tested for straight and spring SMAs for movement actuation and user-override mechanism.
